The Syn live @ The Marquee - 15/11/2005 |

| The Marquee ziet er kleiner uit dan wij ons voorgesteld hadden. Het optreden met The Syn vindt plaats op de derde verdieping en tegen de tijd dat we daar aankomen, vind ik het jammer dat ik niet eerder in de gelegenheid ben geweest om naar de cd van The Syn ‘Syndestructible’ te luisteren. De cd heb ik gisteren pas gekocht bij HMV in Oxford Street. Natuurlijk kennen we allemaal het nummer ‘Cathedral Of Love’, wat als tweede nummer die avond gespeeld wordt. Indrukwekkend. Jazeker. Chris Squire heeft er duidelijk zin in en zijn melodische baslijnen die ons allemaal zo vertrouwd zijn, spelen ook een hele grote rol in de sound van The Syn. Chris en Jeremy Stacey (op drums; ex-The Lemon Trees, ex-Finn Brothers, Sheryl Crow) vormen samen een speelse ritmesectie en hun energie spettert het podium af. Met Paul Stacey op gitaar (ex-The Lemon Trees, Oasis, ex-Finn Brothers) en Gerard Johnson op de toetsen (Funky Monkey, St.Etienne, ex-Peter Banks) weet ik meteen dat we op iets speciaals getrakteerd worden. Echte muzikanten! De songteksten van Steve Nardelli en zijn zang brengen me terug naar de tijd dat het leven een belofte inhield en dat alles nog een uitdaging was. De stem van Steve heeft een melancholisch timbre maar helaas heeft The Marquee geen geweldige akoestiek ondanks dat ik een van de bevoorrechten ben die een plaats op het balkon hebben, waar je de tweeters het beste kan horen. De meeste nummers van vanavond kan je terugvinden op de cd van The Syn ‘Syndestructible’ en mijn favoriet ‘The Promise’ neemt me mee op een kleurrijke reis door een muzikaal landschap! |
| Wij, Yesfans, wij weten allemaal dat muziek over emoties gaat. Het gaat om het gevoel. Wil je symfonische rock beleven met alle soorten tempowisselingen en dynamiek, dan schiet The Syn midden in de roos! |

| The Marquee looks smaller than we imagined. The show of The Syn will take place on the third floor and by the time we get there I wish I would have had the chance to play The Syn’s CD 'Syndestructible' more. I bought it at the HMV in Oxford Street just the day before. Of course we know the song 'Cathedral Of Love', number two on tonight’s setlist. Impressive. Yeah. Chris Squire obviously enjoys himself and his melodic basslines which we are all so acqainted with, also play a significant part of the sound of The Syn. Chris and Jeremy Stacey (on drums; ex-The Lemon Trees, ex-Finn Brothers, Sheryl Crow) form a playful rhythm section and their energy sparkles off the stage. With Paul Stacey on guitar (ex-The Lemon Trees, Oasis, ex-Finn Brothers) and Gerard Johnson on keyboards (Funky Monkey, St. Etienne, ex-Peter Banks) I realise right away we’re in for a treat. True musicianship! Steve Nardelli’s lyrics and his singing bring me right back to the days when life was promising and a challenge. Steve’s voice has this melancholic touch, but unfortunately the Marquee is not one of the finest acoustic venues, although I am fortunate to be able to stand on the balcony where the tweeters are best heard. Most songs of tonights playlist you can find on The Syn's CD 'Syndestructible' and my very own favourite 'The Promise' really takes me into a coulourful soundcape! |
| We Yesfans, all know that music is about emotion. It's the feeling that counts. And when it comes to experiencing symfonic rock, treating us to changes em rhythm and dynamics I'd say The Syn has hit the jackpot! |
